I didn't say it was... but it's just exceeded my expectations with regards to mirrorless. I'm happily impressed by the quality I can get out of a much, much smaller package.

A couple more from today, taken with the M5 and the adapted Sigma 17-70 "C" lens.

Currently use 5D2 and 50D, want to get a smaller camera for holiday use, love taking my 5D2 but it attracts attention sometimes.

Would people using the M5 recommend this in terms of quality. Of course its not full frame but I now have become attached the images quality the 5D2 does for me.

How close is this, is it close at all?

Looking at the pics in this thread they looks rather good and with kit lenses by the looks of it.

Should I go M5 or something else. even the M50 looks good. 95% I do stills not video.

For grab a go with the family I find I use my M5 more than I use my 6D and 7D. Image quality is good (better than 7D) and love the size. What is lacking are fast M lenses. If you are comparing to your 5D2 I think you need to decide if you are OK with the native M lenses. That said I am looking forward to the EF-M 32mm f/1.4 STM and hoping for more fast primes and zooms (but I think fast zooms like Fuji are unlikely). I am ok with adapting my EF 40, 50 and 85, but really any EF lens above the 50 size defeats the purpose of a small system.

Regarding your question on the M50, if it was available at the time I would have purchased the M50 over the M5 for the the lower price and flippy screen. I like the more control dials on the M5, but not enough to buy over the M50. I don't do videos.

I do like my M5 but the newer M50 to me is a better deal. Better auto focus (advanced dual pixel AF), silent shooting, 4k video, newer technology and better price. I like the dials that the M5 has but I think the new tech features of the M50 trumps the M5 features. This not to say the M5's focusing is bad as a matter of fact it is very good with the dual pixel auto focus mechanism (probably the same as the 80D). I think the M50 makes the M5 almost obsolete unless canon allows software upgrades (don't hold your breath for this) to make the M5 more competitive. Just my "2 bits".

The adapters are small and light, and a couple pancake lenses can add to the options.

I agree the adapter is small and light. Plus AF performance of adapted EF lenses is good. However, to my knowledge there are only a couple of EF pancakes: EF-S 24 and EF 40. No reason to get the 24, unless you already own, when there is a faster native 22mm. Don't get me wrong, I'm still ok adapting my EF 85. I just wish for more options such as fast native pancake 15mm and smallish 85mm. Canon releasing the 32 f1.4 is promising.

So much stays in focus with wide angle, what do you think of the manual focus Rokinon 12mm f/2 lens?

I know that on paper one should be better but shooting the 2 along side each other, my daughter has M50, it felt like the 50 was a cheaper paired down version of the 5. Couldn't tell any difference with the focus ability and of course image quality is the same. Flippy screen and video have no attraction to me so those things have no impact on my impressions. I have to say I was a bit miffed when they brought out the M50 but now having used them both I'm glad I got the M5, it feels like the difference between a rebel (M50) and an 80D (M5).

Mr Raymate, look at sidknee's post here he has both cameras I don't, his advice comes from experience.

I love these EF-M cameras so much. I am trying to make 1 thread to unify all users of this mount, as each individual body doesn't have enough contributors.
