I've picked up a copy of this lens to pair with my 1D IV and so far I've been very concerned with the results. Images certainly don't seem sharp, plus in general the image quality seems a bit weird.

I've owned a copy of this lens before and it was fantastic.

Recently got a new-to-me 70-200 F2.8L IS, the old one, because it was under $500 on KEH with a BlackFriday coupon, so figured I'd give it a whirl for my yard-safari stuff with the kids & yard lions.

I've always read it's one of the "least sharp" of the 70-200 family, and that the non-IS version is sharper and that the F4 versions are sharper and of course the MKII and MKIII now exist and are much improved. But... are they? I'm rather confused since I find this copy to be pretty sharp both wide open and clinical at F4. I took the risk since I'm used to razor sharp L's from Canon as it is. Mine didn't need much MFA either to operate at it's near peak, at least, that I can see. So far, happy with the lens, getting it for the cost of what most plastic zooms cost, and it's as old as it is.
