I have seen cars catch fire going up the Cajon pass near me, more than a few burned to the ground and started a big fire, I have driven through that pass when the guardrail posts were still on fire. A few years back a fire burned up a lot of homes in this area.

I lived in Santa Barbara for 24 years back in the 70s, 80s and 90s. Sorry, I left! So I know the Cajon Pass very well. I have also driven through fire burning on both sides of the 101, but I never saw cars burning, Just brush. And I lived through a couple of fires burning in the foothills of SB. But, again, never saw cars burning. A friend of mine even drove through fire in his Vette to escape a foothills fire that engulfed his house. The Vette was intact.

Lou just because you never seen car's on fire does not mean it has never happened... if your calling me a lier just stand up and say ??? I drove truck across your country for 5 years and seen many cars on the side of the road ON FIRE. Never found it to be of much interest, let alone a point of discussion.

Is it me or is it really hard to find pro wildlife photographers that use a crop sensor. Is it mandatory to use only full frame for places like Africa. I ask because I keep looking for amazing 7DII shots via google but all I get is 1DX or full fame cameras in general.

More and more the idea of a " pro shooter " is fading into yesterday. looking at the magazines they are full of images from the general public because I think they run their photography like a business with amazing imagery for free. They don't pay for everything anymore and only a handful of people get used regular. I have been asked many times for images and do oblige.. but no money has ever crossed my hand. I'm sure there are way better shooters on here than me that are just the same. I think the times they are a changing and the little APS-c is becoming just as good a sensor with the advantage of the crop.

Its a good question though with just as many answer's and questions... for me I want a crop.

The ultimate camera for wildlife for me would be the 1DxIII with a new crop sensor in the 30mg range, never ending buffer, and iso EC as well as shutter EC..

Dreams are good...;-)a

I don't look at this thread for 12 hours and it fills up with posts related to heat. Well heat has not been a problem here so far this year. No wildlife in these shots.

Been a cold spring. Note the lack of new growth is both pictures. No green leaves to be seen. That is unusual.

Rod

Lake Ice, taken June 16 which is about normal for that time of year.

I drove that pass every day for over a decade, many of the brush fires were started by burning cars, I have seen way too many fires in this area over the years, some were probably arson, some were probably people tossing lit cigarettes and some were also lightning strikes. Some fires that started on the side of the road have also burned cars on the freeway, like this time. http://www.latimes.com …-pass-20150717-story.html (external link)

A couple more shots. I don't see muskrats out of the water very often but this one was nice enough to climb up on a log in the water. Not sure what kind of a problem he as with his mouth.

The second is back lit so not a lot of detail but it is a pair of breeding ravens that appear to be sharing a tender moment . Their nest is about 100 feet away.

I'm not sure if these two birds are the male / female pair or not. The one with the white head does have some yellow so it makes me wonder. On the second shot AF kept locking onto the tree branches which is understandable but this my best shot so far. Been trying since last summer to get a shot of one of these.

One day I'll figure out what the species is.

I seem to be loosing a lot of sharpness when resizing, maybe I should try different software.

One more then it will take me weeks to save up again.

Don't think I've ever seen five adult loons at one time before. I have quite a few shots from that day with four close together but not the five.

Jeff, that's your cue :-)
