It's typically a female dominated niche photography world. I've done some baby photography of my daughters and some clients. I'm great with babies but patience is a different story. Once you get all of the poses to an art it's a very "bellybutton" type of shoot. Every baby pose virtually looks the same amongst the niche baby photographer's world....only difference is different "human beings" :) I find baby photography painful but worth it after my results. I decline on such photography now. What comes out of these babies is another topic all together :p

I have respect for the photographer's that shoot that subject matter. It tugs on heart strings and $$$$ just like wedding work so it is profitable. Wedding work is just more dynamic and has a totally different scope of work with different stresses.

Here's my canon file but I would rather do a headgasket on an 4 stroke engine than take photos of babies LOL!!!

Great shot Alan. Much respect to those newborn photogs because it definitely takes a special touch to get this right....especially with other people's newborn kids. It's definitely an area where a woman's touch and eye is a valuable thing. I met a newborn photographer once who was a neo natal nurse by profession which makes sense.

My wife wanted to hire one and I was cool with it, but after all the medical bills we couldn't rationalize the cost lol.

Man when you breakdown the amount these newborn photogs make per hour, I think it's probably among the most lucrative ways to make money shooting photos. 1 hour to shoot, and call it another 2 hours to process (studio type photos are easy to process) and it shakes out to like $200 an hour. Wedding photogs are expensive, but when you consider a full month of shooting, weeks of processing, and paying a second shooter, the money isn't really all that great unless you start earning margins on prints and albums.

Looking good Vinz. I might suggest moving the strip boxes further back so that the light falls on the edges of the bottle more. That will give you better separation from the background. If you move your strip boxes back, you may need a bit more light on the label.

As an example of moving your lights further back, here's one I did on a dark bottle of wine. I also used a red gel on a 3rd light from behind and to the side to add the red rim light. In retrospect, I should have taken my shot twice, once with the bottle in place and once with it out of the image so I could get better edge light on the right of the glass. I would then merge both shots in post.

I also got a bag of these as fillers.

Man..... baby photography requires a different breed of photographers.

Realworld photography is an art! A good portion of money exchange is emotionally driven to capture a very big moment.

Props/wraps for the baby photog gets expensive and constantly requires swapping. If they do not purge their former setup the images gets stale. Big $$ is pushing packages making keepsake albums. Typically baby photography heavily relies on props. If you don't have great looking props baby photos looks "normal".

I'd shoot a wedding anyday vs baby photography. However both worlds of photography requires great skill if you want provide killer pro work. Final images combining technical skills, composition and image quality is the bottom line. Tough gig regardless of what you shoot.

I wanted to come up with a little different way of displaying my vintage Esterbrook fountain pen I recently acquired. I believe they were made during the late 1940's to early 1950's.
