I just checked my A7III with the X-Pro and FP Zoom TTL speedlite. Mine will show overexposure/zebras, but refuses to show underexposure when a flash is attached and turned on regardless of the LiveView settings effect being off or on. If you flip the flash to off, then the screen will show underexposure. Turn it back on and the screen will brighten up.

Map a button to shot preview. This is because some shooters balance ambient and flash and like what you said, if you try to underexpose the camera wont show that unless you hit shot preview button and now you can see the ambient level youll record when you trip the shutter.

the usual steps they take are
1) set the camera exposure to underexpose the ambient (depends on taste of the shooter on how much underepose)
2) use the flash to bring up the subject to the correct exposure
3) shoot the photo

since the camera wont show you the underexposed ambient, some shooters turn the trigger/flash on and off for them to be able to assess the ambient exposure - this is where the button becomes useful

robert hall had a video up on his youtube channel on this phenomenon

I’ve had that set up as a custom button before. It works, but it also requires me to physically hold the button down while I adjust settings. I’ve found that it’s quicker and easier for me to toggle the flash off/on. Also, I’m used to the OM-D E-M1 II which works the exact opposite of the Sony. It respects the live setting in the menu even when shooting flash, so I have to specifically turn it off on the Oly once my desired underexposure is set. Thankfully its “simulated OVF” custom button function works to toggle the views. No need to hold the button down.

Vinz, when I add my Nissin i40 it recognises a Sony flash and turns live view off automatically. When I add my Godox trigger it doesn’t recognise automatically so live view still works and you have to disable manually

So its specific to certain flashes?

I can confirm that live-view does indeed work with Godox gear...provided you turn live-view on of course.

AF Speed FE90Macro and 85GM? Most macros are slow in AF and the 85GM are also known as slow. I wonder who has the edge in AF speed.

Now that I shoot food and planning to shoot more lifestyle family portrait, bokeh is becoming less of my priority.

I just did a quick test shoot of that Japanese Restaurant I was talking about. they like what I did and will shoot more than 50+ of their recipes. I was using the 85GM.

Super cool!!! I’ve witness several really cool lightening shows this spring while out on river tour. Problem is I’m usually a few beers in and way to lazy to attempt anything!! ;-)a

Carlo I'g glad our Sony ranks are growing....more knowledge and image share=a good thing.

Samsung Tab S3.
Just got one this afternoon....BestBuy has the exclusive 128gb internal. I added a 400gb micro sd to the slot.
Goal was to leave the laptop at home.
My laptop (and Poof's) is the Dell XPS 13, fairly small as is but maybe overkill for my travels.

I've observed all I use the laptop to do is backup the Camera SD cards to an external hard drive; rarely do I try to
develop/process images while traveling.

So this afternoon and evening I've been placing ~via OTG SD card reader (even found one for UHS-11)~ cards from
the A7Riii and RX10iv....copying to a folder I made on the micro-sd in the Tab S3.

At this point I can back them out to a USB-C flash drive and then have two copies.

So far few glitches (had to give permissions to several apps to write and read to the micro-sd).

I've also downloaded from the PlayStore an app that not only reads the card in the OTG reader, but also can read/write RAW
files on the micro-sd, it is Photo Mate R3. I tried LR Mobile but it cannot access the micro SD :(
