Post Your Best Train Shot......

I may have made light of this elsewhere. Penn Central was a combination of 2 bitter rivals, Pennsylvania RR (my grand dad worked for them) and New York Central. When the PC went bankrupt, it was the largest bankruptcy in the nations history up to that point. As a kid, I remember it being on the news quite a bit! I was born in the early 60's, grew up a couple miles from the PRR Mainline in Maryland, headed into DC. A good book to read, is called "The Wreck of the Penn Central".

My father started working with New York Central then retired from Penn Central.

Shot July 01 in Colfax, WA, in the Palouse. The cloud making the foregound shade was moving so fast that my next frame was almost all in the shade and quite 'flat'.

FWIW, the new Canon 50mm TS-E arrives tomorrow--I couldn't resist ePay's 15%-off promo. These things (being TS-Es in 24mm-gen.2 and 45mm-gen.1) work very well with the 7R3 and Metabones v.5 smartadapter.

And here's the train, parked, of course, on the fringe of the small, very-eastern town of Palouse, WA. Details of engine will have to be supplied by someone(s) who knows something about it. And I have no idea what it's hauling. What is 'CNK'?

NKC = Nebraska Kansas Colorado
Looks like a GP40-2 to me.

Typically center beam cars like that are going to haul some type of building products - 2x4, 4x4, 2x10, OSB, drywall, etc.

I am glad to know I am not alone in that I like to take pictures of trains but don't know anything about them!

LOL! Indeed, I know virtually nothing about trains except that they fascinate me to some degree. I have a goodbuddy who LOVES trains and train-related things, and years ago we stopped at fascistfornia's Tehachape loop. He'll go with when I make my FIRST train-foto trip.

One fotografic point--I used the usually-on-the-lens CPL for the side shot and was amazed at the difference in saturation, to the extent that I reduced its saturation a good bit. Apparently, the angle of the reflection was JUST right to be highly polarized.

The old rusty-steel sign to the left of the locomotive's front was a bust--its front contained NO text and only streaks of birdpoop.

Is there a common abbreviation of 'locomotive'? Perhaps LM?
