First go at Super Rugby from in the stands.
Impressed with what this camera can do under lights at ISO 12800 and a 50% crop.

Lets just ignore the final score ;)

I assume you are a pro photog being allowed to take equipment like this into the stadium? Mere mortals like me are only allowed mobile phones and compacts. Great photo of hard to get action.

No, not a pro at all.
Is this a thing? Not being able to bring a camera into a stadium? I put the camera bag in my backpack with the kids snacks and blankets, not to conceal the camera just make it easier to carry.
It didn't even cross my mind that it would be issue.

Yep many higher level sporting events/stadiums forbid cameras with interchangeable lenses or lenses longer than x inches. However this is mainly ones where the event is televised and there is a lot of media wanting to take photos. I have found that Rugby is more relaxed about this stuff (it isn't the giant money machine of Soccer/Olympics etc) unless it is an International.

Murrayfield (Scotlands national stadium) allow lenses up to 6" in length, so a 70-200 or maybe even a 100-400 are allowed. It's how you conduct yourself that governs whether you are allowed to use it. Start swinging it around in peoples faces and you'll be asked to put it away by the stewards

Maybe the earlier versions of those lenses were shorter but the current versions of both are well over 6".

I have a C-AF 1.4x Teleplus MC4. I used it with my Canon 550D + Canon 70-200mm L 2.8 for Aussie Rules game it performed poorly, deleted most photos. This weekend used the same lens but this time on Canon 40D preformed much better keep rate significantly higher. These mid range cameras have better focusing systems.

Great shot, especially considering that you've had the misery of having to photograph the Bulldogs ;-)a
