Had a family reunion in northern California over the weekend. My son and his girlfriend wanted some photos, and we managed to find some nice locations in the area...

Nice image, Richard. I'd consider a crop on this one to make the couple stand out in that nice light. But you might have another image that does exactly that. This crop is something for your consideration. I hope you don't mind the edit.

I like the look, wish it was at a longer focal length + cropped + more oof backround/bokeh... Seems like one of those shots where those specialty lenses would be nice: 135L on a crop or 200 f2.8 on full frame.... either/or

Took this in Grand Pré, Nova Scotia. I recently bought the Sigma Art 20mm 1.4 for astro work. I'm loving it. The exif data isn't quite accurate as I stacked several images together with separate exposures for the sky and foreground which I stitched together in photoshop. The exif shows the land exposure.

I am not super keen on obliterated backgrounds unless they are a mess. I see a lot of stuff like that. Just a taste thing I guess.

I love shooting at 200 but you need to be a fair way away and it’s tough yelling out instructions at that distance outdoors sometimes.

I bought this charger & batteries from Amazon last month for £49 and so far have worked well. Charges from a USB cable which is a bonus (for me anyway:-))

https://www.amazon.co.uk …age_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (external link)

It arrived today, seems to be ok. Not sure about the batteries that come with it. Fully charged they register between 50-60% on the camera. Genuine Canon batteries charged with that charger show as 100%. I'll try charging the cheap batteries in the genuine charger.

Edit: charging the cheap red batteries with a genuine charger they register as 100% when fully charged on the camera. Put the same battery in the double charger, then back in the camera - 79% is shown.

Makes sense. Maybe the key is to find that balance. I think those lenses like the prime 135 gives a rather unique look in those types of shots.

Hope Richard won't mind. Since if we're cropping, might as well alter the light a bit. (little 15-second edit to change the warmth).

I flip flop between warm and more contrasty looks.

I think I personally prefer the more contrasty look. Maybe because it is a little different than what you see for this sort of stuff. Dunno. I will probably change again.

My customers like them which is the main thing.

The other thing worth mentioning is a lot of them want big prints. I have found that if everything is tight then they will be less inclined to print large. I get that, it’s a bit weird to see a big print closeup of yourself hanging on the wall.
