I had a plastic bird feeder with a flip open top, Squirrels would climb the tree, open the feeder and climb inside.

I just set up a new area in my yard for the birds, I mounted a wood disk on a 4” x 4” post and mounted a feeder on top of it, I also planted a fruit tree near it to give them more shade, it will take a couple years to really help much.
