It is really nicely done as is the shot of the green heron. There are a couple of belted kingfishers on the lake that I frequent, but I simply cannot get close enough for any kind of decent shot. ![]() markesc wrote in post #18666482 Dude! It's taken me five years to get a shot like that! Basically I lucked out, was sitting outside of a photoblind, which probably helped a bit, plus I was siting down, so maybe I didn't stand out as much.... pure luck! Went back to the same spot today with another photographer and zero luck with two people standing there. So I'm thinking if you can sit down/blend in/not move and just wait it out, then you'll luck out. They tend to perch on snags, so if you know where they are, position yourself with the sun behind you and snags close enough. Hopefully ya have some other creatures there to focus on while you wait: frogs/turtles/ducks/etc.... Right now areas where the water is evaporating from ponds quickly = lots of action! Mike, kingfishers were my nemesis ! They are really wary birds and can be frustrating. This shot was one I got last year. I noticed a pair of kingfishers flying around where I keep my boat. I observed them for a few weeks and noticed (like most birds) that they are habitual and were landing on the same perches. So I set up a blind near one of those perches and waited. Took some time, but it paid off in the end. Dave
