I'm mostly curious about two areas vs. the 5D4 for birding: - high ISO performance - AF performance for non-BIF in low light, distracting environs - lens drive speed using TC's and big whites I decided a while back that the 1DX II isn't worth the cost over the 5D4, primarily due to less latitude for cropping, I don't need 14FPS since I'm not a BIF shooter, and less important but still things I've grown to appreciate in the 5D4: the lack of Wi-Fi and the limited touch screen. Also, the photos I'm getting off of the 5D4's sensor are sublimely good, it's going to take a strong showing from the 1D to impress me. But who knows, having the full power of Canon's tech might be a game changer?

But who knows, having the full power of Canon's tech might be a game changer? First of all... that's a beautiful shot. I haven't shot a 5D IV, but I will say... the 1DX2 is the best camera I've ever used. I liked my 1D IV better than my 7D2, mainly for the colors. I'm getting the same true colors with the 1DX2 and the camera itself is so intuitive.... everything in the right place. I know it doesn't have the extra megapixels for cropping etc..and I lost the 1.3X crop factor... but I love it. Someday, I'll try a 5D IV perhaps.. but I don't feel like I'm missing anything... except a couple long Whites. If I may, perhaps you can crop a bit tighter to get rid of the distracting black arc on the right side? Or maybe some cloning of the butter-smooth yellow/green BG from the left side? Great shot regardless! Sam

But who knows, having the full power of Canon's tech might be a game changer? I've had the 1DX2 since August, 2016, and the 5D4 since September, 2016. For anything telephoto, the 1DX2 is my tool of choice. IMHO, the ISO performance of the 1DX2 feels about 1/2 stop better than the 5D4. AF performance is excellent on both. Lens speeds on the 1DX2 don't slow when using a TC. Most remarkably to me (both for BIF and airplanes) is that the 1DX2 shoots 14 fps and continues to focus and meter for each of those shots. For anything moving - grandkids, airplanes, birds, etc - the 1DX2 is always used. Image editing ok; C&C always welcome.

Great shot regardless! Looking forward to your work with the 1DX II. I finally MFA'ed my 5D4 with my 100-400II and my 500/4 II, so I'll probably do some birding this weekend with my 5D4 for the first time. Looking forward to it, as I have been using my 7D2s exclusively for birding upto now. Man, I wish I had the skills to photoshop that out.. just tried, and it's beyond my level
