I thought I'd share this.

While going through color slides sent to me by a photographers mate aboard the USS Oriskany when I was, 1966, I noticed a couple of shots that included a small manless helicopter and I wondered what it was. I discovered that it was the Gyrodyne QH-50 DASH (Drone Anti-Submarine Helicopter). In 1965, the Navy converted them to fly reconnaissance missions and were nicknamed "Snoopy".

Here's an excellent video that explains them very well. I had no idea we had a drone aboard back then.

Looks awesome. I'm sticking with my original Mavic Pro. Congrats on the Pro 2. Very curious to see how the new cameras work.

I would love to order one but need to wait right now. I’m sticking with the spark. Prob after the holidays I was gonna order the zoom but I’m thinking the Mavic Pro orig should be good for my needs. My buddy has one and it’s really nice.

I ordered the PRO as well and expect it Wednesday!! I pretty jazzed!!

Image quality meant a lot to me but the ZOOM looked cool - just couldn't justify them both.....yet!!

Does anyone have the air? I was looking at that also. I really like the small compact size. Can anyone tell me their thoughts on it.

first flight with the Mavic 2 Pro last night was awesome, having control of the aperture is great! Here's a shot of the sunset behind my house, this was a single image shot in raw and processed in lightroom. The dynamic range on the new pro is real good

Whoa, that is an amazing picture...

I wanted to try and capture something like this, low light with dynamic background lighting/movements. I need some help deciding on my next drone to get! I was reading some reviews (this one: https://buyerbenchmark.com/best-fpv-drone-2018-review/ (external link)) and was trying to decide mainly between the phantom 4 and the mavic.

Do you guys have an opinion based on those two?

Thank you!
Roger

I've got the air. I love it! It has it's shortcomings but because of it's compact size it is the best option for me.

I would get the new Mavic 2 Pro, for the money its one of the best out there, you get a 1in sensor on a compact size drone

If you want the ABSOLUTE best image quality in a consumer drone, the Phantom 4 Pro will be your best option. It's got a 1" sensor, which will provide better IQ and dynamic range that the cell phone size sensor of the Mavic Pro (version 1). It's got a mechanical shutter for photos which will prevent banding. Most of the time unless you're flying inside that won't be an issue, but mechanical shutter will also help rolling shutter in images. On the video side, it has 4K 60fps. It's the only consumer drone that offers this.

That being said, the new Mavic 2 Pro will also be an amazing drone. It almost matches all the features of the P4P (and surpasses in some) while also being much more portable. It has the 1" sensor for the great IQ, but does not have a mechanical shutter or 4K 60fps. However, for video, it does offer 10 bit, HDR, and H.265, which the P4P does not have. But most importantly, it can fold up and be thrown in a backpack, instead of needing a special large backpack just to fit it like the P4P.
