I couldn't find anything specific so ask here.
I'm not sure what the protocol, politeness, Forum preferred way, is when it comes to adding to another members thread.

For example if someone starts a thread 'vintage steam' and adds a short commentary about a recent steam event, is it okay to add more images from another event?
I feel that maybe stepping over the mark? Not sure now?
I fully appreciate if someone starts 'show us your vintage steam' then that's what's being asked.

The last thing I want is to hijack a thread and 'open it to others'.

I see some do post corrective or directive posts when someone posts, for egs, in a wrong topic. That's good to have that interaction. I appreciate it.

Trust I haven't crossed that line and intruded in others with any of my posts.

Appreciate your input please.

Richard

I think you summarised it nicely: If somebody is asking for pictures then it is fine. If they don't do that explicitly, then I think it is only appropriate to add a picture to answer a question or to demonstrate a point you make. If in doubt then you also just can ask first.

I don't think this would be appropriate at all, unless they specifically asked other members to share their photos, as well.

In a thread such as the hypothetical one you mentioned, that thread is supposed to be about the Thread Starters' photos. . If you add your own photos to the thread, then how can the thread still be about just the photos shared by the OP?

This assumes that the thread is located in one of the "Photo Sharing" sections. . If it is in one of the "Talk" sections, then it would normally be appropriate to add your own photo, if it helps to explain a point that you are making in the discussion.

Very often, if you have a photo to share, you can usually find a group sharing thread into which it will fit, and thereby there will be no need to start your own new thread about it. . . For instance, if I have a really great bird photo that I am excited about and want to share, I can add it to the "Post Your Best Bird Portrait" thread, or the "Post Your Birds In Flight" thread, instead of starting a new thread.

.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".
