Really nice!

A question for you, if you don't mind. I remember you used the 1D4 with this lens and the 2xIII, and got great results.
Now that you shoot with the 5D4, do you see any improvement in the AF performance or IQ of the 300/2x combo?
Any benefit going from 1D4 to 5D4 when using this lens?

I'm asking because I own this lens, extender and 1D4. I'm thinking of buying a 5D4.

Many thanks.

When you see my camera gear you'll think I'm a pro.
When you see my photos you'll know that I'm not.

Much as I like the 1dmkIV (I still own it and occasionally still use it) things have moved on. Both the AF and the IQ are better with the 5DmkIV, mainly (IMHO) because you can customise the AF menu so much more in the new body and because of advances in high ISO performance between the two. In terms of the 300mm with 2xTC, excellent results are to be had with both bodies, again it comes back to what I said above. Not completely clear cut of course, the 1DmkIV still holds a small advantage in fps and the 1.3 crop may be useful for more distant subjects. FWIW I considered a 1DxmkII before buying the 5DmkIV, that was until I read about the many unhappy owners still having oil spatter on the sensor issues which Canon still haven't sorted from the 1DxmkI. I p/exed my 1Dx for a Fuji GFX50S but kept the older 1DmkIV, that tells its own story!

I was one of those who had 1DX2 oil splatter. A couple of days after I got the camera, I shot 3000 images at an airshow on a hot day. There was quite a bit of oil on the sensor. I cleaned it myself, and continued shooting various things. After the next airshow, there was much less oil on the sensor. By then I had joined CPS, so they cleaned it. I'm not getting any oil on the sensor anymore. I still get dust, so I send it to CPS once a year or so. I also have a 5D4, and the amount of sensor dust is about the same on it as I get on the 1DX2. So the 5D4 goes to CPS at least once a year, too. I like both bodies very much, but the 1DX2 is my favorite.

Image editing ok; C&C always welcome.

Pleased to hear you're happy with your 1DxII Jim. In my case, I got so fed up cleaning the sensor on my mk I that I was happy to see it go. Shame, I liked it otherwise.

Our neighbor's cat Diana, despite being short and rotund, fancies herself as a bird stalker. She does this in our backyard.
