I've tried not BW, but sepia conversion. And there was too small contrast in that case. Color version is better, imo

Is this where we post portraits of our prime lenses? :-
I snagged a Canon 85mm f/1.2 L as a great deal on eBay and felt like showing it off.

In my limited experience with it, yes, once it's locked it's pretty good. It's slow to rack from near to far & vice versa but it's not terribly slow focusing in small increments. Pre-focusing helps speed things up. On slow moving subjects it performs reasonably well in servo @ 1.2. Haven't had to discard any shots due to missed focus.
