Same thing I was thinking, this thread is over a year old...

...and the OP was clearly wrong. The A9 has been a moderate success at best in terms of sales and Canon is nowhere close to doomed :-P

My balance is a lot of hours crammed into a small time space. 80hrs/week, but off every other week....2 weeks off a year and one week off means 3 weeks off in a row.
So I work 24 weeks but have 28 weeks off.
It could be worse.

You may be able to relate to this, as my good friend/former roomate worked the overnight shift at one of the busiest corporate pharmacies in the country for about a decade full-time. One week on, one week off. He bought a nice 4/3 house, nice bedroom set . . . the kind of place where you can really kick your feet up after a 12-hour shift of filling scrips and dealing with people who are in need (or dire want) of medication.

But where did he sleep during his work week? His walk-in closet, of course.

It was the only place in the house that would get pitch-dark during the day here in the Sunshine State. There was a modest mattress in there for him to sleep on, while his king-sized bed with a pillow-top mattress went unused every other week.

The life of a vampire pharmacist.

Its also $1k+ more expensive than an A9 and no one was professing that Sony was doomed when it was announced :-P

Nobody knows all of the variables which limit the degree to which Canon 'vanishes' as a major force in still photography.
Nobody knows all of the variables which limit the degree to which Sony 'vanquishes' as a major force in still photography.

Sony was the technical 'champion' in VCR technology, yet Beta failed as a consumer product champion because the competition simply outmaneuvered them commercially.
Sony was the technical 'champion' for a long time in color TV CRT picture quality, yet they are but a also-ran in TV today.
In video game systems, Sony has gone from 12% market share to 51%. Meanwhile Nintendo has gone from 60% to 45%...hardly 'gone' from the game platform market due to Sony's increased prominence.

It's all a guess, plain and simple. Opinions are like rectums, everyone has one, and what comes out has little real value relative to how the future turns out. :p
If it foments positive changes, that's all that really matters.

That would mean Microsoft's xBox has a 4% market share or less.:rolleyes:

Reviews I've seen for the A9 still detail problems that are solved or better in the Canon and Nikon cameras. Also, the A9 shoots like 10-12 fps in uncompressed RAW while Canon has what, 14fps? Canon and Nikon both have big glass and there is a lot more of it out there and so it is cheaper than the $12k Sony commands for their first big lens.

I'm looking to get a Sony body, but ONLY because I can use my Canon lenses with it. If it meant buying all new lenses there is no way I would even consider it.

I took the info from a web site with market share info for video game systems

Just doing another search on 'xbox market share' yielded "The PS4 was responsible for $17.8 billion of sales value, or 51 percent share of the total console hardware market with Microsoft's Xbox One at $9.1 billion and a 26 percent share."

Right after you pay a ridiculous $400 for the Metabones. Pass.

Right...and I for one will not support the big gorilla that sits on its laurels because it is the leader. Me as a consumer want the high driven features that are emerging from Sony and now possibly Nikon.

We don’t need more 6d2 cameras...

The 6dII made me lose all faith in Canon. Even the 5DMKIV was a disappointment. I am about 75% Fuji and 25% Nikon now. 4

Sigma MC-11, which is just as good as the metabones, can be had new <$200 if you do some searching and even cheaper if you're ok with used.

Metabones iv has most of the functionality of the v, but sells at a discount since its the older model. I got mine for $200.

Just like everything else in photography, with a little smarts you don't have to pay MSRP for adapters unless you choose to.

The MC-11 and metabones are close, but not the same. The MC-11 works great with Sigma glass, but not as well with Canon L glass, and a lot worse on other third party lenses. Sigma with MC-11 is better than Sigma on a metabones. Canon on a metabones is much more reliable than Canon on a MC-11. Just my experience.

The one I really like is the Speed booster from metabones. You gain a stop and a lot more light ends up on the sensor which improved focus accuracy. You also loose the aps factor so a 300 acts like a 300. But the speed booster also costs twice as much.

I will wait to see what price canon will charge for its ff mirrorless adapter before commenting on how cheap or expensive sonys adapters are.

If Canon is smart and really wants to get the new FF selling, they will include an adapter. At least initially to get it moving. If not, good luck getting people to switch to a system with only a handful of subpar lenses or a system in which they have to spend hundreds on an adapter. You will get very few people happy with their DSLRs to switch with either of those options.
