I only found some very old threads on this.
Australia has a rich, diverse and in places abundant wildflower display at various times of the year.
I welcome others to join in please.

(If I've duplicated a thread then please advise)

Here's one of my favourites. I'm not botanically minded either. But I know it as Short Purple Iris
It's growing at our place

Tasmania has two native species of Patersonia. Both species have long, flat, thick leaves that form clumps in heaths and sedgeland (P. fragilis) or swampy places (P. occidentalis). The flowers are pale to moderately bright blue to violet, with three obvious petal-like sepals, and three much smaller petals.

These are intriguing plants and as requested add more detail. Not all my words.
Trigger plant is characterised by an asymmetrical fused corolla and the presence of two stamens fused to the style to form a column.
This column, upon irritation, moves across to trap (brand them with pollen) insects as part of a pollination strategy.

Basically when an insect alights to collect the nectar the little 'prong' in the centre flies out, hits the insect and puts pollen on the insect who takes it onto the next Trigger Plant.
My daughter used to (still does) love teasing the poor things with a small frond.

Size wise these plants are about 35 to 45cm, 14 to18" tall, occasionally less or more.
The flower shown would be about 8 to 11 mm, ⅜" to ½" across.

They vary in intensity of colour from lightish to deep pinky purple tinges.

This is what our Waratah tree (shrub) looks like in full bloom.
And they often grow in thickets or heavily interspersed with larger trees and other understorey vegetation.
They are stunning when massed and even on their own stand out for all to see.
They are also nectar rich so no doubt attract birds.

And this is another Correa. There are several of same species but just differ in appearance.

I was playing with my EM-5 and an old Pentax 55/1.8 with a Fotodiox adapter (PK-m4/3)
Had it for a while but never took it serious. Until now

Cheesewood, Tasmanian native. Pittosporum bicolor
Very colourful tiny flowers with small red seed pods.
Very scented flowers.
Tree also called (here) Tallow wood. Used in past for telephone poles and fence posts due to rot resistance.
Grows 6 - 8 metres
