Reminds me of another excursion of mine.

This place is remarkable due to it being abandoned before completion.

On the southern outskirts of Port Huron, Michigan, a construction project was begun
to build an indoor/outdoor ice arena to support a local semi-professional
hockey team. It was to double as a venue for locals to gather for their
own ice-skating enjoyment, and perhaps other uses & functions were envisioned.

It never saw completion.

Vague information of money scandals, or pulled support, or team conflicts, or
whatever-you-want-to-speculate-about were circulated.
It was begun, but it never was finished.

I visited in 2009.
The site had already been vacant of activity for at least a couple of years.
It was(is?) immediately adjacent to an active yet small strip-mall, which
at the time housed a church of some sort in its largest space.
Within full view of said strip-mall, nobody took notice of our explorations
of the derelict site.

I call this "Michigan's own Coliseum"

Expensive heavy equipment was also left behind

Easily seen is the proximity to the adjacent strip-mall

I also have a cool planetary-conversion of a 360-degree panorama
shot from a roof of the former Packard Automobile manufacturing plant
in Detroit, Michigan.
The site is now apparently undergoing renovations and construction,
but it was a decaying mess of neglect during the few times I was there.
Two or three of the 'Transformers' movies shot on location here
for some scenes.

Seeing as I mentioned the Packard plant, here's a few...

It's an enormous site, covering a 3.5-million SqF footprint,
not including above-ground levels. It spans several city blocks,
and even has a vehicular bridge spanning Grand Avenue.

Since the early-mid 1950s, the site has been mostly vacant, with only a small portion
of the northermost end occupied by an active business interest.

It's been somewhat difficult for me to grasp the enormity of such a prodigious
and prestigious auto-maker's total decline, leading to a complete cessation
of everything they once were.

For decades, this site has been testament to what Detroit has become:
Evacuation, apathy, poverty, hopelessness, desperation.
Sadly, Detroit has lost multitudes of people in recent decades,
as well as many nationally-recognized architectural landmarks
of significant importance for their type, all because there has been
no funding, no revenue, no interest, and no investment influx.
I can only hope that the recently-renewed interest in Detroit
will hold up for the long-term.
