Spiky Bridge near Swansea - 1840's - Convict built
The Spiky Bridge is part of the old convict coach road that connected Swansea with Little Swanport and the east coast road to Hobart. It sits beside the current east coast highway, approx 7kms south of Swansea.

Interesting and lovely collection of bridges.

I bet that suspension gets a sway up.
Love the little log/branches bridge below it.

All beautiful, but second is striking with its colours.

A recently finished bridge replacing one of the last fully timber bridges built in Tasmania that I setout in the 70's.
Rather odd feeling to see a once handcrafted timber beauty now concrete and reinforced rod.
In June 2016 massive floods destroyed many bridges and claimed lives of 3 people

And we are richer for it, thanks.
Like the way the track through the snow winds around the tree and across the bridge. Sort of like emphasising the purpose of the bridge itself.

Sadly they are a dying breed. Some are going to have to last a long time if our railroads are to survive.
