weather on the katmai coast has been a bit iffy so was able to sneak into Brooks River for a couple days and a day in Lake Clark National Park. Soon the fish will hit the katmai preserve!

That's interesting, and nice photo. Do they hide in the trees? I'd hate to be out strolling and encounter one discretely munching away above me.

They sure are impressive thanks.
How easy is that? Stay still, open you mouth and wait for them to pop in.
Probably doesn't quite work like that. Or does it?

We visited Brooks Falls last year. Can someone identify the type of Salmon please ? I thought Sockeye would be red and there were plenty of them in the river downstream but any I caught at the falls weren't red.

What a nice shot...incredible timing for sure!! I wonder what the salmon was thinking at that precise moment?

Those are sockeye. They will change color as they get closer to spawning.

some are remarkably good at it. others not so much. at the end of the disney Bears movie they have a blooper reel of salmon smacking into bears faces in slow motion. Worth the watch just for that.
