Every week we select a new theme, and then go out and shoot that theme. This weeks the theme is Help for the Environment. As always be as imaginative/creative as you like when interpreting the theme, creativity is what we're looking for.

Show us stuff that is helpful to the Environment

Here are the rules:
1. Shots need to be taken between Monday Sunset and the following Monday by Sunset (Whenever that is for you ). Because this activity is supposed to encourage us to get out and shoot, please don't post old shots from your archives. Snapshots and art are equally welcome -- just get out & shoot, and then share!
2. Post your shots at any time during the week.
3. Post a maximum of two shots if you're uploading them to POTN (i.e., attaching them). You can post more than two if you're linking to shots that are not hosted by POTN (i.e. embedding them), but keep within POTN rules. Also keep within POTN rules about size. A copy of the size rules can be found here: IMAGE POSTING RULES
That's it! Have fun! As always be as imaginative/creative as you like when interpreting the theme, creativity is what we're looking for.
An index to previous weeks can be found here: POTN WORLDWIDE PHOTO WEEK INDEX

That's it!
Have fun!

Thanks. Ours aren't doing awfully well, either. Some of the vines get too much shade from the monstrous bully of a loquat tree, which was smaller when we built the structure for bean vines to climb.

Thank you very much. I fiddled with positions and angles until the whole thing satisfied me. It's nice to have my taste validated.

About the topmost item in that bunch: Cores from toilet paper fit well into a tissue box. When full, it makes a handy bundle to toss into the bin.

Funny, because I always fold the core from toilet paper and put it in another one, fold those two and put them in a third core etc. until there are too many and it doesn't fit in another core. And I always put the "stuffed" cores in a tissue box. :-P

Well I don't ride a bicycle these days but my interests are in habitat development that benefit the environment for plants/wildlife on my land. In the past my efforts have been mainly for deer, turkey and all birds but I'm starting to grow native plants for the pollinators as well. My Grandson has been working for an individual that was instrumental in bringing back many native plants, some from near extinction and he has become quite interested in doing the same. I have 50 acres set aside on my East farm that I have been working on for many years. I have fenced a few acres where I live and given it to the Grandson to begin his native plant plot as it is more suitable for pollinators, open land that will make a great natural prairie.
The first photo is Indian grass, hasn't grown to full height or went to seed yet because of dry weather.

2nd photo is Compass plant on my East farm, some of it is ready to harvest seed from, most is not ready. It has been very drought tolerant, blooming longer than most plants and attracting many pollinators.

3rd pic is Milkweed, loaded with Monarchs awhile back but I think the last generation has came and gone for this year, I'm only seeing them flying in the air now. I have much to learn about them. I have enough Milkweed though that we will harvest seed to sell this year so when the pods finish ripening we will hand harvest thousands of pods with millions of seeds. Another project that takes a lot of time but I enjoy doing these crazy kind of things. I've harvested some White Indigo, Eastern Gama grass and protected some Butterfly Milkweed this week but I better not bore everyone any more, esp with photos.

I just flatten them and pack them in, one at a time. I think more fit in a box that way, with no wasted space because I'm not juxtaposing curves. When it gets too hard to squeeze in one more, three short stacks will go on top, flat side up.

I suppose there are people who don't enjoy figuring out the most efficient way to do something, even a small thing. Perhaps one or two of them are quietly snickering as they read this.

New subject. Many storm drains in my area are labeled like this or with some variant of it:

Most labels say ". . . drains to Bay." The round plaques at the particular corner say ". . . drains to creek." A creek flows way under the pavement. You wouldn't know by looking at anything on the surface except these drains. A close-up of the plaque at the drain across the street from the first one:

Well done Steve. It looks very green in your photos. This area must look really amazing in a non drought year.ߘ

Steve, I'm not bored. Your efforts are commendable. I wish everyone would give that much attention to preservation. We do what we can, but all we have is a city lot. You're in a good position to carry on major restoration projects.
