Nothing special. Just a couple quick pics. Top is Atlanta and the bottom is the set for The Walking Dead. They built a new windmill.

Sony competes with Canon, Nikon and other camera manufacturers and thus, is not afraid to equip its entry level camera with a full bag of tricks. Canon competes with Canon and is so afraid that their lower priced full frame cameras such as the 6D Mark ii will compete with the 5D Mark iv that they "dumbed down" the 6D2. I keep finding things that I need and that the 6D2 doesn't provide. Simple things like a 1/8000 second shutter capability (the 1/160 maximum sync speed sucks also!). I have to use an ND filter if I want to shoot wide open at ISO 100 with my 85mm f/1.8 lens in bright Southern California sun. Sure I could use ISO 50 but, at that ISO, the 6D2 takes an additional hit in dynamic range. With the dynamic range already pretty bad, I don't want to do this...

Canon tries to excuse the limitations of the 6D2 by reminding people that it is an "ENTRY LEVEL" full frame DSLR. Guess what folks? The Sony A7iii is an "ENTRY LEVEL" camera also and look at the features it provides...

My solution to the problems of the 6D2 - sell it and buy a Sony A7iii with an adapter to use my present Canon glass.

I really loved (and miss) my 6D2. The articulating screen and built in timelapse mode are two great features it has over the A7III, I know in some places they are the same price but even at launch, the Sony was $700 more the Canon here in Aus.

The 6D2 wasn't a perfect camera but definitely wasn't a bad one either.

I do wish Sony would have put a fully articulating screen on the A7iii (I love it on my Oly EM1.2). I can take or leave a built-in intervalometer. S&Q mode kind of works along those lines but is limiting. I already had the wireless Vello Shutterboss, so it wasn’t a big deal for me. Swapping out a cord makes it compatible with all of my cameras from 3 different brands. It does suck that Sony decided to remove apps from the Gen 3 bodies that were available on the older models.

While I’ve read that Canon is finally willing to cannibalize its other products as it launches into mirrorless FF, honestly I’ll believe it when I see it. They’ve traditionally offered cameras that were simply only “good enough” by limiting features and being very conservative. We’ve always had to either choose top end bodies or deal with the handicaps. It doesn’t seem like Sony really cares about that at this point. That’s one of the main reasons I bought the A7iii.

Back into Sony-camp. Just got myself an A7III with the kitlens. Using it side by side with my Fuji XT2 for now. Mainly got it for the FF DOF, eyeAF and better video. First impressions are so so, I find the EVF quite a bit less good than the XT2, the kitlens is crap compared to the Fuji 18-55 and I have a very noticeable flickering in the EVF when setting the camera to PAL (strangely it goes away when setting the camera to NTSC). Need to make my mind up for which lens to get. I always (and still miss) loved the a6300 with the 24/1.8 but I don't quite see a 35/1.8 which is somewhat smallish for the Sony FF. So maybe I need to get the 28/2 and the 55/1.8 then.

uh, how is the kit lens crap compared to the fuji? costs less and probably better MTF scores...

as for 24 replacement 35 F1.8 != 24 F1.8, get the sy or fe 35 f2.8, gives you closest match to 24mm on APS-C. The FE 35 from sony is in the league of the 55, just much smaller, and more friendly focal length.

Sony kit lens is probably not better than the XF18-55/2.8-4 in quality might be closer to the XC16-50 though if we are competing MTF charts.

The Fuji kitlens has a F2.8-F4 aperture, is all metal and has a very sturdy build. The Sony kitlens feels a bit cheaper. Not dissing it, it's just my first observation. I think I'll go for the 28/2 + 55/1.8 setup once I get my Fuji 56 sold.
