I just bought this lens and it's plenty sharp for me. Took it to a fire department event...

Another one with the 10-stop and CPL but this time the CPL is dialed out for the water.

I need a little more reach other than my 24-70 - Is there much difference in image quality between version's 1 & 2? .. a used 24-105 version 1 are easy to come by at such a low price..

When I was researching it most reviewers said there wasn't enough difference to warrant getting the version 2 if you 1) already have the version 1 or 2) you can get a used one.

I didn't have the version 1 and my wife doesn't let me buy used lenses unless it is something inexpensive like a 18-55. If I'm paying new price either way it doesn't make sense to me to buy the lesser one. So I went for the version 2 and have no regrets.

Thank you for the info - my wife prefers me to buy less expensive so I go with a used lens when I can! :p - Price difference "used" between the two is big so I'll see what I can find.

IQ is pretty similar. I think the II has slightly better colors and contrast, but sharpness is the same as the I. The II does have better build quality, AF, and IS.

Image editing ok; C&C always welcome.

Don't let anyone tell you this lens isn't sharp.

This was indoors on an old crop body with mixed and terrible light, IS on.
