Sorry for the duplicate photo post (from a while ago), but needed to share this photo of Boo again. I had to put her to sleep yesterday. A litany of issues - kidney failure, thyroid out of control, and likely a touch of pancreatitis based on bloodwork. My sweet girl of 14.5 years. Life won't be the same without her. I cried my eyes out yesterday.

So many of us have gone through this, and more than once. Losing one who has chosen you for unconditional loyalty and love, is like have your heart ripped out while also getting punched in the gut...repeatedly. We mourn the loss of our trusted companion with unwavering devotion, and secretly tell ourselves "never again". I have said those words, and then as if some cosmic adjustment process is unleashed a feline in need of a loving and faithful servant crosses my path. I cannot say no, we cannot say no.

We are bound to this feline circle of life, it will never end for us...this makes me smile. Boo had 14 plus amazing years of love, as you did as well. The memories will never fade, but at least the gut-punches will dissipate, somewhat. And, of course, there is the Feline Circle of Life, just waiting to find the next perfect soul for you.

Peace be the journey, Boo

My condolences, Mike

Thank you Jason! And thanks to everyone for their condolences. I know many, if not all, of you posting have been through this. This is a first for me - she was my first pet since the dog I had as a small boy, and the first time I've had to choose to end one's life. With no spouse/kids, she was extremely important to me. And I do have another - I "inherited" my mother's cat a few years ago, and she's been giving me lots of love the last few days (but is quite camera shy - maybe I'll get a photo of her soon to share). For now, I'm going to kick back and enjoy the posts of all your beautiful faithful companions.

Here's to Boo!
I've been calling our foster kitten that. Picked her up at work a few weeks ago, just about 3lbs 99% black 1% grey. Going to get her all fixed up and adopt her out.

Very poignant post, Jason .... and very true ! The "Feline Circle of Life" that you speak of is real.
I'm 66 now, and have had two previous long term cats. Both lived to around the 14 year mark.

Just when you think 'no more', along comes a little bright eyed darling that steals your heart.
Luci (below, at just a few months old) did that to me. She's nine now, and my time with her is passing all too quickly.
