Thanks, I tried some at 1/320th, didn't have many keepers but this was one of them

Can anyone help, my 100-400 II arrive today, AF is fine on its own, fine with x1.4III extender, but AF is not working with the x2III extender on my 5D3?? Thought the AF with x2III should still work?

Afraid not as with the 2x the max aperture is too small (F9 to F11), AF through view finder only to F8.


AF will only work in live view on some bodies at F11, not sure if the 5DIII is one of them.

Update, it will focus (very slowly) in live-view, but when come out of live-view, the top window says "M Focus"??

This is normal for your camera+lens. The camera needs an aperture of f8 or larger to be able to autofocus. Your lens is f5.6, with 1.4 ext.(1stop) it becomes f8 so it works, with 2.0ext.(2stops) it becomes f11 so it doesn't work in autofocus. Live view uses a different way to focus and sometimes works but very slow.

(M focus: only manual focus, the extender reports to the camera so it knows it can't autofocus, some 3th party extenders will work because they don't tell the camera it's above f8 but mostly only slow or inaccurate)
