I just started using HSS. I'm coming from AlienBees/DigiBees world and just got a AD600 Pro. I like the photos below, but the first one especially screams fake background to me. It's not - it's a real sunflower field. It almost looks like it was shot in studio. Any suggestions? Did the flash overpower the sun TOO much making it look like a studio shot?

These were shot at 2:30pm in full sun with an AD600 Pro through a 38" double diffused ParaPop.

To answer your question. Your flash exposure on the subject looks to be fine however if your goal was to have the ambient light in balance with the flash you would have to slow the shutter down a touch to let more ambient light in.

Problem is that logic doesn't work if you shooting in HSS mode. Both flash and ambient will increase if you lower your shutter speed. You need to lower your flash power to achieve what you suggesting.

For my taste, it's just right. :) If you increase the ambient even 1/2 stop, the magic is gone. Daylight fill is nothing special.

Thanks guys. I'm not sure why the EXIF data didn't carry over, but yes...I was shooting around 1/2500 to 1/6400. Mostly 1/4000. It was 2:30pm and very sunny.

2x eVOLV/AD200s in the AD-B2 and a 43" octabox, during golden hour. I think I was at 1/8 or 1/4 power, so I had some room to spare.

Australian model Taya Brooks wearing Stello Couture dress for this editorial... Shot at the infamous Santa Monica Pier... We used construction worker Gabe as a 'prop' for the stark contrast between his and her attire... Thanks Gabe... Hehehehe... Photographed in the late cloudy morning, amongst the hustle-and-bustle of this tourist attraction... Canon 5DsR + 135L + Lee 0.6 ND and Lee 0.6 SE (Soft Edge) GND Filters (stacked)... ISO 125, f/2 @ 1/2000sec... Profoto B1 + Westcott 36" Deep Octa (high-right of model) for fill light...
