Smart move.... With the development effort of the latest round of EF lens like TS-E, 85mm f/1,4L IS, refreshed 70-200s....

I wonder how Canon would solve the flange distance of the mirrorless without adapter....

I read that this new body will have 1 card slot

This will kill it for many

?????? Why no 70-200?? I would think it would be a bigger seller Than some of the more special lenses. Perhaps instead of the 28-70 and wouldn't a 85mm be a better pick instead of one of the 3xmm?

Lenses that benefit from mirrorless shorter flange distance are on the wider end, not tele. Slap the current EF offering on there.

I'm not sure that I understand what you are saying here. Could you please clarify?

"C" = Canon

"in" should be "if"

Make the body close to the size of a DSLR. Common complaint with the Sony and other mirrorless cameras are the ergonomics and how cramped they feel if you have medium to large sized hands. A slightly smaller, slightly lighter 6D would be perfect and thats probably about the size it would be.

I’ll go along with that. In 2012, I wanted to get back into hobby photography and buy a new camera since my ex kept our 20D when we separated. I really liked the Sony NEX 7 (I think that was the one) on paper, and it was getting great reviews. But when I went to a camera store and actually tried one, I was constantly afraid I would drop it. I just didn’t feel like I could get a good grip on it.

So I bought a Canon T2i and the rest, as they say, is history.

I have not been too hopeful that this announcement will knock our socks off, until seeing those lens specs. I have a hard time imagining dropping the coin on what will surely be high priced lenses only to mount them to a non-pro body.

Hopeful, but not holding my breath.

Moving sensor - possible, but makes the body thicker, which kills the size advantage
retractable mount - doesnt seem likely
recessed element - kills off third party and adaptability of short flanged lenses.

what's confusing about the release is that consumer body and pro lenses for release. Either way, one of the most exciting Canon releases for sure, cant recall the last time I was so excited to see a Canon product :-P

By the video specs, I have no interest in the system, I'm just excited the sleeping giant is awake.

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

Already here and on the other huge mirrorless thread. ;)

https://photography-on-the.net …showthread.php?p=18697159

I feel bad for only finding this interesting vs being really excited. I guess I always knew it was coming, Canon has been working on this for years while pumping out the M# and M50 series. It was only a matter of time with Sony's latest and now the Nikon offerings.

Kind of figured that they would use an adapter. Also, sounds as if it's going to have the 5DIV sensor. Now to wait for the image samples.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

retractable mount - doesnt seem likely

That's the first thought I had. Somewhere I read that Canon had said there was a "sexy solution" to the lens mount/adapter issues. RF seems to be the name of the new mount, so that could be retractable or something along those lines. It would be interesting, and it could possibly be used as a built-in macro tube for the native RF lenses.

EDIT: Just checked the link posted while typing that, I was wrong.

My God the legend of the 28-70 f2... Is that really F2?

The Canon looks amazing, small 35 too.

Of course it will! It looks badass, best looking mirrorless IMO. Right in between the size of most small mirrorless and an average DSLR. Adapter is disappointing but shouldn't be too big of an issue as long as its cheap and worked 100% correctly. If the price is indeed under $2k, they will sell a lot of these. Im still holing out to see the 50MP!
