Opinions please on which body is better. Can't find anything definitive. Got GAS so I need to relieve it.

Canon leaves out features on the 80D which it includes in the 7DII. What does Canon positioning tell you about which one Canon thinks is 'more professional/enthusiast oriented'?

(Not addressing the question of IQ between the cameras...the 7DII predates the 80D by about 2 years.)

Better at what? No one camera is better than every other camera at everything. The 7D2 is better at 10 fps. The 80D is better at costing less than $1,000. The 7D2 is better at configurable, high-powered autofocus (though the 80D is no slouch. The 80D is better at f/8 autofocus (with the right lenses).

Once you define what better means to you, the choice should be reasonably clear.

EDIT:
Tom's corollary: If you can't define better, you don't NEED a new camera. Buy whatever you WANT.

Tom's response to Tom's corollary. If I had unsatisfiable GAS right now, I'd be shopping 1DX2. It's the only real upgrade from an 80D!

The cost difference alone makes the decision for me. Unless you need the higher frames per second, the 80D makes more sense.

for most situations the 80D is plenty strong enough to do the job.

Are you a pro?
do you need dual slots and rugged build?
Extreme weather?
A buffer that can handle hanging on the shutter? = 7DII

The sensor is better in the 80D. But I haven't traded my 7DII in for one because of the other features the 7DII has vs the 80D.
I'm waiting for the 7DIII :)

Godox/Flashpoint r2 system, plus some canon stuff.

I just thought, to hell with it. I picked up a 5D Mark IV. I figured that should hold me for a few years. Thanks all for the input.

Good choice! It is a great body, and does pretty well at alot of things. Tonight's events... JPG out of camera, no post processing other than sharpening.
