I was wondering if other cities do this with their sports teams.

For years, the Pirates have run the pierogi race every home game during the 7th inning stretch. 6 or seven people dressed in large pierogi costumes and raced around the field. I have actually known of fans placing bets on their favorite pierogi character (I mean a dollar or 2 or maybe a beer).

So yesterday I was at the Pitt game and they introduced "The Greats Race". I believe this is to be a recurring thing every home game, they consist of: Larry Fitzgerald, Mike Ditka, Tony Dorsett, & Dan Marino.

Do any of your teams do this sort of thing? If so, please post an image for us to see.

Ha Ha. Thanks for posting. I too have only seen it in Baseball until now. I'm guessing milkshakes because of the heat in Miami? The Pirates race perogies because of the whole ethnic thing. We even have a district of the city called "Polish Hill".

Yep, but again, limited to baseball.

The Atlanta Braves have a Home Depot Tools Race. Hammerin Hank, Phil the Bucket, B-Rush, Two-Bit the Drill. The Drill always cheats, and typically loses.

The Braves have also done another event the last few years... Beat the Freeze. The Freeze is an aspiring sprinter that dresses up in a Freeze costume (sponsored by Race Trac), then races an average Joe from foul pole to foul pole along the outfield warning track. The average Joe gets a head start (a few seconds), but the Freeze is wearing track shoes. The Freeze usually wins. Sometimes the fan gets smoked. Sometimes it's close. There has been a few epic losses by the fan (celebrating too early).

I will have to dig out some pics when I get a chance.

They tried the frolicking deer in some early, 1964 rings a bell, Indy car races and it didn't go well. Weren't even able to salvage the costumes from what I heard.
