EOS-R - It's out. Thoughts?

Watched a couple of Canon videos. One cool feature is that you can use the back LCD, while off, to move the focus while looking thru the EVF.

You can also customize pretty much any button, including the new touch multi-function. And the filter adapter is compatible with EF/EF-S lenses. Speaking of EF-S, it becomes a crop when used.

So far this looks very promising. Can't wait for some real-world previews and reviews.

Accidentally voted its an awesome camera.

Yeah there's no option between amazing and pretty good for example.

You forgot "Couldn't give a monkeys!" in the poll list. I'm really not interested in a mirrorless camera, regardless of the size of the sensor. They do nothing for me, and are just not the right tool for my photographic interests.

That option should definitely be added to the poll, but in my case the option I'm missing is "Nice to see Canon responding to Sony, but right now the R holds no interest for me"

This guy does really good videos with crazy stunts, Canon invited him to use the EOS R to film it.

You mean Clog? I honestly wouldn't have any concerns going from A7III sensor back to Canon sensor.

My 10 year old Canon can shoot 10 FPS.
This new mirrorless only 8 FPS.

Perhaps not but when I been reading comments on various sites about "wow this is an amazing camera" that screams fanboy.

This camera should of been released with the A7II timeline. I don't doubt that this camera is a start of a new beginning. But being normal canon it's crippled already. Because they keep advertising it as "mid grade". They are holding out better features for a top tier product.

I love canon and I've been a very loyal fanboy myself. But I'm sick and tired of their product preservation. Sony releasing the A7iii told me they mean business in keeping the best possible tech available at all price ranges.

They are rolling the dice with their Canon name again.... and again... and again... so they can continue to rape it's loyal customers wallets. Again they can release a big battery powered poop stick and it will sell great. Because of their brand loyalty.

As I would want a mirrorless for my non-action shooting, this camera would work as is with single card and 5fps. It just means that the Canon DSLRs cannot be replaced just yet with this first FF rendition. The next one should be better feature-wise. This camera is shaping up to be a great macro shooter though!

Also Rudy Winston mentions it’s a first in a series of EOS R cameras. So more to come for sure. Most likely an a9 competitor.

This is the best they can do? They fell short of Sony and they really needed to match Sony. I do not own a Sony but it is the new benchmark. Both Canon an Nikon missed the boat. Another disappointing release. "IMO" I still love my Canon 6D and glass I love my Fuji mirrorless too *LOL*

I personally find the new body as well as the RF lenses to be amazing. Personally I find lenses to be Canon's strength and the new releases prove that IMO.

A lot of people speculated that the A7III was so feature packed to get as many people to switch as possible before CaNikon release their offerings and I think has a lot of truth to it. I ditch my 6DII (which I loved and wish I could have afforded to keep) to switch to it and many others have too.

That's honestly the benefit of being on top with such a lead, they don't need to compete as much but if Sony and Nikon want to win people over they need to It's good for consumers when companies give all the features at a lower price but not so great for business.

The only thing I think that should really been included is IBIS. It's disappointing to not see it there and will be a huge mistake if they don't include it in the mid level body.

Considering this was in R&D probably for 3+ years, this is what they brought. Not bad at all really for a first run. Sony is on gen 3 or 4 at this point. The ability to use a drop in filter for any EF lens is great, all those lenses that don't accept filters can now, which is nice. Using EFS glass is a nice little perk as well. Using a Canon adapter such that AF won't be compromised with EF glass is very nice too.

Well I'm so excited about it I have my best kidney up for sale on flea-bay.
