I'm not leaving this site for any reason. It's the only photo site I visit that is forum based other than feeding my gear addiction on FM :)

I honestly feel like a $1899 price tag would of been killer for the camera they released.

...I still don't want crop mode 4k so Canon has to resolve that before I switch back.

........there is a reason I won't sell my 200/2 (again :P)

Yeah I'm guessing this will settle in at the $2k or slightly less price point in 6 months or so. Would be really sweet if the drop in filters could be used for the big whites too so all filters were interchangeable. Don't think so, but one could dream.

Didn’t the 6D2 dropped significantly on Black Friday from their launch (June ‘17) price of $1999? And they’re $1599 now and recently the grip was included.

Jared mentions the AF was crazy fast and accurate despite the Canon event having horrible lighting.

He also mentioned the EVF had such good quality that he couldn't tell the difference between an EVF or OVF. For those who watch RAW Talk probably remember how bad his eye sight is so I will wait to hear how good it is from someone else haha

All manufactures know people will pay much higher prices at launch just to be one of the first to own it. I did that with the 6DII and paid hundreds of dollar more than I had to for my A7III too haha.

odd.. the Northrups and the Watsons are saying the AF for stills was a bit slow and not quite as accurate ,, not on par with sony or Fuji.

(I kind of lost a bit of trust in his words after a recent Fuji camera review he did , where he didn't seem to know how to use the camera.. and then blamed the camera for its short comings (when it was really that he needed some time with the manual))

Yes seems to be mixed reports, could have to do with the lenses they tested with or the bodies themselves.

This DPReview video is another non biased review and a good watch.

Rudy Winston clearly stated in his Canon video, that this camera is not meant to replace DSLR, but a complementary system.

While that may seem great for Canon users on the outside, it also means that Canon intends to keep you on the hook for two camera systems. And to make that possible, one system will have pro features, the other wont.

Of course that's marketing, and I think it's just really bait to keep Canon users for a little bit longer while they phase out DSLR's.

Will stay with my 7d Mark II and my 5d Mark III with my EF lens. Nothing here to make me do anything else. Maybe, if and when they introduce a 2nd R, with specs that are more suitable to my type of usage I will bite....but not now.

Canon's site has a review by a videographer using it. He mentions Canon's "digital image stabilization" for lenses w/o IS. On their site, Canon mentions the R's "in-camera digital lens optimizer". (screen caps below). What gives?!

That's an error, it doesn't have IBIS.
However the software lens correction is applied to video, like stated in your second picture.

Why do they need to match Sony? Why can’t they do their own thing?

In my opinion it’s a great start. Not perfect (what is?). But Sony could take a page from Canon DPAF for example.

IDK.. They had all this time and they could not match what Sony has already. Same sensor as the 5DMK4? This would have been a good release about 3 years ago.IMO

It certainly has given us all a lot to talk about *L*

Why do they need to match Sony? Why can’t they do their own thing?

Because they are supposed to be competing with Sony for sales. Presumably, they would like to have every customer that switched to Sony come back to Canon by ditching their Sony FF mirrorless and buy this new body. And presumably they would also like every current Canon customer to stay with Canon and buy this initial FF mirrorless offering.

Unless they match everything that the Sony has, and also exceed it, they will fail to eliminate the competition, and if the competition isn't eliminated, they will continue to lose some sales to Sony, moving forward.

I don't feel like Canon is fighting really, really hard to get my business. If they were, they would have released a body that gives us more than the competition, for the same amount of money.
