I have a Canon 80D along with Tamron 17-50 2.8 and 70-200 2.8.

I'd like to eventually upgrade the 17-50 with a 24-70 2.8. Following that (a few years later probably) would probably be an upgrade to a full frame body.

I've heard that it would not be good to put a 27-70 lens on a crop body like the 80D. The reason given was that this is a "full-frame lens" and would result in some vignetting in the images on a crop body. I've not seen that with the 70-200, so would it happen on the 24-70?

What are your thoughts on this?

I've used plenty of "full frame" lenses and never had an issue with vignetting.

Full frame lenses work fine on crop bodies. I only buy fill frame lenses anyway so when I eventually get a full frame camera I'm good to go.

You cant use crop lenses on full frame bodies however. They could interfere with the motion of the mirror and break it.

vignetting would for me be the least of my concern. Even if it did Lightroom has very easy fixes for that. My concern would be about the different coverage of those lenses. going from 17 to 24 limits city and landscape shots.

Thanks! It's actually not very difficult. These damselflies are pretty patient models and will not fly away or move if you apporach carefully. And the 80D's autofocus is quite capable.
