Beautiful shots of beautiful landscape, Tim.
I love how you included the two people in the last shot as it gives a nice idea of scale.

Thanks. It was a good day to be out for a hike on the coast. It was also a good day for public lands now that this beautiful place is set aside in perpetuity.

Thanks Levina. I didn't notice them at first because the grass is very tall there. They were almost invisible in the camera viewfinder.

On my way to an astro shoot with some friends, I took retired Nifty out through one of the neighborhoods destroyed 11 months ago in the fire storm. This ridgetop area lost more than 900 homes.

The good news is that the rebuilding has begun.

However, if the empty cleared lots are any indicator the rebuilding will take years.

New houses rise amidst many reminders of the fire.

A park in the middle of the fire zone miraculously survived.

The 4 "heart pillows" in this image were made by my wife's best friend. It's a volunteer project for the VA hospital in San Francisco. Apparently the VA funding under the current administration is so lacking that the VA can't afford these pillows for the veterans who undergo open heart surgery. A group of volunteers led by a retired USMC veteran makes dozens of these pillows every month.

That's it for retired Nifty until he visits San Francisco later this weekend.

Thank You for posting Tim..

Are those lemurs? In N. Cali?
Not just a park then, but small zoo?

Sad about the VA.. I'm really sick of hearing how there is no money after what these people endure.
Shameful :-x

Tim, thanks for the lovely images; you seem to keep this thread going. I wish I had another Nifty with me because the weather is perfect for getting out and I have some time to kill right now.
What a shame that the current administration has limited funds for the VA. I don't even want to go any farther into that.
What a wonderful thing to do by your wife's best frienf.!
Take care.

I feel the same way, but my point in that post was to focus on the positive. There are many folks who will step up and do the right thing for others. They rarely get media coverage
or credit, but they're out there quietly doing it.

Lemurs in NorCal? Yes, its true. They live in a 400 acre privately owned wildlife park called Safari West (external link).

The fire story is here. (external link)

Really nice shots Tim.

I am sure that the folks who receive those beautiful pillows will be very
happy to receive them. It is a shame how veterans are treated in your
country and mine.

Renata, I have an older (metal mount) Nifty you can play with for a while. I'm not too far away!

Michael, thanks for the offer but I believe it has to be the traveling Nifty, though. I have one of my own, too and when I asked Joayne, she clearly stated that we can't post anything with our own Nifty. :)
