A colourful caterpillar I spotted on one of my bonsai acers. About 5cm body length. ID'd as Sycamore moth caterpillar Acronicta aceris.

What a delightful caterpillar.
Beautifully photographed.

Makes me wonder if a beautiful caterpillar turns into a beautiful butterfly, moth etc? Does a drab one transform into a beauty?

Lovely thanks

Excellent, as usual, Brian, and what a super beast! I'd love to get one of those. I know where to find lots of sycamores, so I must go and have a look...

Avondale : the moth is varying shades of grey, but with beautiful markings.
