This thread began as a spinoff from the Flower Shots thread, where people sometimes hesitate to post plant parts too mature to qualify as flowers.

What belongs here? It isn't completely clear; considerable overlap exists between pods and fruits. For pods, any seed-bearing structure qualifies, whether or not it has dried. That beautiful bowl of apples, however, would be better placed in the Food Photography or Still Life subforum.

Half of a pod that had split open and fallen off a blue-milkweed plant; found August 16. No other pods were open then.

Now (September 4) some pods on the plants are opening. This one just started.

Clare, those are nice surprises, especially the dill seeds, where you had a choice about posing.

That's interesting, beautiful and well captured.

Thank you Richard & Sibil

Yes, AFAIK it is the Chinese Lantern (Physalis alkekengi )

This new thread reminded me of the shot I had taken in 2007

Unidentified cucurbit in someone's yard. Not exactly a seed pod, but the fruit does contain the seeds.

That's an impressive cucurbit.
Have you eaten it?
Prickly thing.
