Beautiful shots of that uncommon woodpecker. His white head with the red patch in back is striking looking.

Thank you very much, Mike! I took it at Lassen volcanic national park, haven't seen any in the SF bay area.

I finally upgraded my computer after many years. I went from windows to iMac. So far it is amazing. Here is my first edit on the machine.

Super portrait. It would be ideal for a photo-based field guide.

Wonderfully graphic shot Paul. These Anhinga's know how to get the job done. Really well captured.

Thanks Mike.
That Critter has one sharp dagger.
Happy trails,

Well caught, nice light and good sharpness, but I'm putting money on that being a Royal Tern. Not a Least anyways.

Thank you very much for your complement. I appreciate it. The reason I thought this was a least tern was because of the white forehead. My bird book seems to show that the Least Tern has a white forehead while the Royal has a black forehead. But, The illustrations aren't that great and I may be wrong.

I posted this photo on Whatbird Community and they agreed with you that it is a Royal Tern. Bob

Great shot, AP. I hate to be a fish in the pond that an Anhinga frequents. Those birds are amazing spear-fishers.
