Beautiful examples of what can be done with the Canon 200 F2, wish there was a native solution for E-mount.

He beats the hell out of what I can do.

Adapting the Nikkor 300mm PF + 1.4TCiii to the a9 for fantastic lightweight BIF setup.
The Commlite adapter really surprised me.

getting ready for the trip to the Smokies this weekend...a look back at some of the Tule Elk from Point Reyes earlier this year. I am hopeful that the 100-400 and the 2x do a little better than the 70-200GM did...

Only problem with Smokies' elk are the radio collars on many of them.
If going to Cataloochee be careful. They can get way way close to you; and you are the one supposed to move away from them, so be careful---not of the elk, that is common knowledge, but of the rangers who will tag you if you don't maintain the prescribed distance.

I can photoshop out the collars...yeah, gotta be very aware in the Smokies. I won't be going alone so we can help each other watch our backs.

loxia is small, but not small enough

is may seem like I'm too much of a stickler for these things, but I had a small lens bag (belt clip) that fits the FE 35, so it should fit the 21. Along with another bag that holds the camera with lens mounted (belt clip). Small lenses like the FE 28 (loxia size), dont fit into these bags.

I can get bigger bags, and do have some, but I dont like the added bulk, it means that I have to take off the bags while in a car or they just generally get in the way.

I'm the same with my tripods, my RRS travel tripod is actually huge compared to my real travel tripod (11 inches folded up).

keeping things micro like this gives me a more generally pleasant shooting experience. I generally wont have issues carrying more, if I know the trip will be shorter, but for all day shooting, I really want something smaller and lighter.

I'm pretty much of the same mindset, I use a small Thinktank Retrospective canvas messanger bag that I take with me whenever I leave the house on local excursions. Since moving over to Sony from my Canon days I've built two sets of lens, a standard set mostly comprosed of auto-focus and manual focus Sony/Sigma/Canon?Zeiss zooms and prime lenses and a second set of compact/very compact manual focus prime lens from VC/Leica M and Zeiss ZM. When I step up for a walk locally I always take a couple of my compact primes with me as you said, it's a much more pleasant shooting experience. My walk-about town kit usually includes the Loxia 21, Zeiss 35 ZM and the Leica 90AA M, easily fits into my bag with room left over for another lens if I want to.

!'m the same with tripods, I have an older Gitzo Explorer pod that I purchased years ago and has worked well for me but I'm contemplating a smaller and lighter travel solution that I can use on hiking trips. Been looking at the RRS 1 series but I'm having a hard time justifying the price of those pods especially considering how often I would be using it.

Anybody on the board contemplating/interest​ed in the new Sony 24 f1.4 GM that is rumoured to be announced today? It's not a focal length I shoot very often but it sounds like it might be a great lens for astro work assuming that coma can be kept in check. I was hoping they were also going to announce the rumoured 135 but it looks like that isn't happening.

I love the shots I got with the 24A but seldom used it. I dunno why but oh well

Looks like they were able to make a fast wide angle prime without a retrofocus design. They hypothetically should be able to make a similarly sized 35 f1.4, or a smaller 35 f2.

I don't usually mind large lenses, but if the optical quality is relatively close, will choose the smaller lens any day of the week.

I know people like them but I personally don't like the aperture rings, I feel like they make the lenses look ugly. I think the upcoming Sigma 40mm f/1.4 will probably be more appealing to me personally!
