Amazingly sharp! Those eyes! How much post-processing was done?

On a 5DII at f/2.8. Just when I think I want to turn this one in for the 85 1.4 I see an image it produces and I change my mind.

I agree. The darned lens takes nice photos. I have a hard time trying to justify an upgrade.

By the way, I like this photo a lot!

I agree! There are times when I completely overlook it. I shouldn't: it has many of the attributes that I like best. It's relatively sharp, it focuses quickly, it has pleasing bokeh, and it's compact enough to easily take with me. That is the defining attribute, for me, these days. I might buy a new 85mm lens from a number of manufacturers, but none of them will slip into a jacket pocket like the Canon 85mm f/1.8. I'm glad I've got it.

what kind of PP was done for this photo? Or is it "as is"?

In Lightroom 6, I bumped the contrast a little, pushed the highlights a smidgen and the vibrance a touch. That's it.

Dug this up from my 2011 archives tonight, reflecting back when I owned this lens. I share this not to demonstrate the lens, but with a note that maybe I underestimated the lens. I used to feel about this 85mm 1.8 the same as the 50mm 1.4. But it's a better lens than I realized. I think it was just a coincidence of being very new to photography, not knowing about lighting and not keeping the lens long enough.

This was an overcast day, but very drab, almost on the verge of foggy. But when I look at the original image closely, there's better detail in the eyes and skin than I noticed at the time.
