Momma Mallard, and Young'uns...a late hatch. Her first batch of ducklings were apparently all killed off, so she's giving it another go. I hope she makes it with this bunch.

Richard, I so much appreciate your very nice and thoughtful comments. In the case of this mallard, I'm pretty sure it was hawks. There is a pair of nesting Swainson's hawks, and also a nesting pair of Cooper's hawks; all living near by. I never saw them take one of her babies, but it would be likely that they were the culprits.
