Challenge #709: City Mouse, Country Mouse

What kind of mouse are you? Let’s see an urban or rural photo that conveys the essence, the character, the mood of cities or of places way out of town. Your choice.

Remember, if you post a photo, you may be the winner. Be prepared to host and judge a new challenge.

To submit, click POST TO THREAD and put your photo title in the first line of the post. Don't forget your camera model.

Post until Monday noon GMT, 8 October 2018.

RESULTS

Trumper, "Walk over the road into the countryside": Nice clear shot on a beautiful day. A mysterious structure in the distance provides a goal for the walker: "Let's go see what that is!" I would have liked to see more going on in the middle ground.

NixEre, "City!": Country creatures in the cleanest barn I've ever seen. There must be a story behind this. The sprinkling of colorful accents enlivens a largely restrained palette.

Stiga, "It's the country life for me": Dramatic panorama caught the clouds making good shapes and shows what a great place to live this is. Well-balanced composition.

JimAskew, "Rural Illinois Seen from the Amtrak Observation Car!": Strong composition, presumably grabbed on the fly. I guess the G5X left the glove box for that one.

Maureen Souza, "Country Mouse: Sun Maid Raisins Is My Neighbor": The light on the contours of leaves makes the vine almost 3D. Good old SunMaid, a staple in the San Joaquin Valley, but don't they still use Thompson Seedless? An alternative would be cropping at the right to move the grapes off center.

WINNERS

#1 JimAskew
#2 Maureen Souza
#3 Stiga

Congratulations to Mo and Martin on their fine challenge responses. Thanks OhLook for the first place nod and for a fun contest that was wide open to interpretation as evidenced by the variety of entries. I took that shot on the way to visit family in Illinois a year ago. Took about 200 shots on the train all in all. Fun way to pass a long trip :-)

Welcome NixEre to our feisty and merry little band. I look forward to competing with you soon in our expanded fixed lens Challenge.

I'll have a new challenge up shortly.

Challenge #710: A Walk Down memory Lane is now posted.

I chose this topic as we are nearing the end of the G-Series Challenges and moving to a larger audience of Fixed Lens Challenges. I have lots of fond memories of these challenges over the years. I'm excited for the change and look forward to making new friends in our expanded group :-)

Congrats to Jim & Martin. Thx for 2nd Place.... I realized late last night that I had forgotten to post my photo. Sun Maid grows several varieties of grapes for different buyers. I should find out more details, I guess.

OhLook, This is what I found:
The Thompson Seedless grape is the most popular variety used to make raisins, although other grapes, such as Fiesta, Flame and Zante currants are also used. In addition to raisins, Sun-Maid packs a full line of dried fruit, such as figs, dates, cranberries, apples, prunes, apricots and tropical fruits.

Thanks, Maureen. They have more products than I remember. I didn't mean to give you an extra chore, just curious about the grapes!

Kudos to the winners. Great shots. I had one I wanted to post, but I only have it on one machine and I kept forgetting to grab a copy of it. Old age and all that.
