Here are some Ground spiders (Gnaphosidae). All but the last photo belong to the genus Sergiolus. The last photo I'm not sure beyond family.

You've captured those beautifully.
Really nice spiders, but they make me wonder what they'd do to humans?
Don't look like I'd want them up my clothing.

Fascinating spiders.

Thanks!

They are harmless. Their first defence is to run away and if that doesn't work they sit still (playing dead?). Biting seems like it would be a last resort and even then I doubt it would be any worse than a bee sting.

Here's one on my hand.

These are all truly amazing, sharp photos, rich in detail.

Curious about the second. Has it wrapped up something with web?
When I first saw it I just thought it was carrying its young.
Obviously far from that.

Thanks.

Seems to be a prey item, looks like it might be a smaller spider.

AFAIK orb weavers don't protect their spiderlings but some species protect the egg sack. The item wrapped up looks too large to be a juvinnile anyway.

I haven't come across a jumping spider yet that wasn't wonderful-looking haha. I'm also a bit surprised that this thread isn't more active with how active some of the other threads are.

I truly enjoy this thread and can't speak for anyone else, but I don't have a lens that will let me compete with the photos displayed in here.

You don't need a specialised lens as such if you just want to play about macro to start with. One of the lens in your kitbag will most likely give you very good results with either an achromat attached to the front of it, or reversed with an adaptor (and perhaps extension tubes as well).

Good achromats are made by Raynox (commonly the 150 and the 250), Marumi (I use the 200), Canon and even Nikon. They will typically cost you somewhere between $50 and $100 or so, and they can be used stacked as well.

Adaptor rings for reversing your lens can be found at any good photo shop on on eBay. You just have to make sure you get the correct one compatible with your camera mount and the filter-ring diameter on your lens to will it will attach. Extension tubs will also need to be compatible. Some extraordinary results can be had by using all three suggestions above in tandem. A brief overview of the subject and some techniques can be found at http://extreme-macro.co.uk/ (external link). I hope this helps and you find it interesting!

I am sure others here will have much more than I to say if you need more suggestions. :-)

Good looking out and thanks for the tips. My response was more of why, IMO, more people don't participate in the thread.
