Taken at For-Mar Nature Preserve in Michigan. First time there and really like how much wildlife and scenery there is there.

Pandanus spiralis on a dry floodplain covered with magnetic termite mounds, south-west of Darwin.

These thin, gravestone-like termite mounds are 6 - 10 ft high, built and inhabited by millions of grass-eating Amitermes meridionalis termites, 1/4 inch long. These soft-bodies insects can only survive within a degree or two of 30C (86F). They use the earth's magnetic field to align the mounds north-south in order to catch the rising sun with the broad, eastern face of the mound to heat it up quickly after a cool night. Then in the middle of the day, when it might be 38C outside, there is almost nothing exposed to the overhead sun, which prevents the mound from overheating. The mounds take many decades to build.

Very nice river scene. Lovely reflections, composition.

Both these are such lovely examples of the diverse river landscapes we have on this planet.

Thank you. It’s a pretty amazing place. I was there a few weeks before the beautiful fall color unfortunately.

The thing I like about those two (well one) is the different river styles of each.
Uniquely different.
I'd imagine they're at different altitudes.
Top one more restive, yours more sedentary.

This is mere yards from Lake Superior, which I’d never seen before. The flow was just a trickle as it’s the opposite side of a little island from the rushing Presque River. I’m happy I walked all the way around the island and got to experience this calm and tranquil scene.
