I could use some help.

I looked through the user manual to see if it was possible to disable full time manual autofocus.
I could not find anything so I'm currently assuming this cannot be done.

Can anyone tell me otherwise and if so, how?

A wonderful lens.

When Dustin Abbott said it had a rendering that was almost Zeiss Otis-like, he was correct.

I have the Canon 85mm 1.2 and this Tamron 85 .... maybe I have a soft spot for 85mm's, but I also have the Zeiss Milvus 85mm

2nd image taken in Hiroshima and adds a whole new meaning to the word meticulous. THe guy in the large bonzai tree was pruning the trees needles one by one.... Unbelievable.....

Nice photos. I was just searching "bride" in the thread and noticed the man photo. I do pruning professionally. I used to tinker with Japanese style pruning and bonsai, then over years, realized if the same level of "skill detail" were applied allowing growth instead of restricting, 100 times more canopy can be gained with more natural characteristics. I still appreciated their level of care though.

A local sulphur crested Cockatoo came to visit us the other day. I was on the balcony of a friends place in Apollo Bay earlier this year having an early dinner and taking in a lovely late afternoon sea breeze that was cooling a very hot day when this guy dropped in .....For non aussies these guys are a common sight here in Australia to the point where I dont often photograph them these days. That was ofcourse until this guy took up his very regal pose in front of me....Had to stop eating and get the shot he looked so perfectly positioned. .Glad I did actually because it turned out to best one of all the sulphur crested shots Ive taken over the years and thats a lot . ...

And a lot of this great detail can be attributed to 1. 5dsr 50 MP sensor and 2. 100-400mm IS II . This combo is a resolution powerhouse for a wide variety of wildlife both big and small. ......and so flexible unlike my prime 400mm f2.8 where Im restricted to certain distances and the huge weight gain that comes with a F2.8 telephoto lens. . And I believe even with the camera tech being 2 years + old its probably still the best full frame combo availible for this sort of work on the market today. Having said this I hear there is a 60 and 100Mp sensor schedukled for release down the track which will make this even more interesting on what more Canon can squeeze out of their full frame sensor with their sensor tech R&D ( in conjunction with whomever makes the actual sensor)

Last hour of daylight in Prairie Creek redwood park. Under 300 feet of canopy, 1/2 sec. is barely enough but anything longer isn't a good option when there's a breeze blowing ferns and leaves. This is my favorite time of day in the redwoods, aside from the photography aspect.

Also from Humboldt. An autumn morning in Humboldt Redwoods State Park. Full screen looks like standing there.

Taken with 24-70mm 2.8 VC Tamron ... ISO 400 ... @55mm ... 1/4 second ... f/11

There was a breeze that could be felt, and a faster shutter could have saved more detail in the fronds and leave. Light was passing into some areas, but the background was shaded under 300 feet of canopy. So at f/11 this seemed to work for this spot that morning.

Yes I have a soft spot for 85mm lens also.. Although my soft spot was for the Canon EF 85 f1.8. Many years ago I read a write up where the reviewer said it was non L lens that had L lens IQ and so I got one as I wanted to do some family portraits and was looking at an 85mm however couldnt justify either the 1.2 or the 1.4's price for a lens I would hardly use. ....And sure enough the reviewer was right. This lens was unbelievably good for a non L..Infact it provided me the best portrait shots I have ever done although as I said I dont do that many . . Best value for money of all the non L EF's apart from the nifty fifty 1.8 IMO . When I have time I will look for the shot and post it here. T
