There is a big stonework arch entrance to the Williamsburg Bridge on the Manhattan side. To me, there are three strange eyes watching the pedestrians and cyclists as they head toward Brooklyn. Beware.

The Domino Sugar factory used to dominate (no pun intended) the East River waterfront just north of the Williamsburg Bridge. It was abandoned years ago and now is being turned into luxury apartments with a view.

The benefit to the rest of us is that the developer built a park between the refinery and the river, providing river access, views, playgrounds, dog runs, bocce courts, etc.

It also has provided a view of the refinery from river level.

Is it an insane asylum? A prison? A dark satanic mill? Something from Batman's Gotham City?

Smokestacks? Nope.

These big tin cans are syrup tanks rescued from the Domino Sugar refinery in Williamsburg and now part of Domino Park, built between the refinery and the East River in Williamsburg.

Interesting stories. Good for the owners/developers who are reusing structures and materials instead of leveling the lot and starting from nothing.

truth be told, I tripped and fell on the cobblestones at the north end of the park. I took most of the damage but the grip on my camera got scuffed.
