Thanks for testing that Digital tuned. It's interesting that you get that shading at the extreme corners in crop mode.

I suspect you've left the lens hood on, otherwise you should see a circle. It would be interesting to see it at 16mm without the hood, it should get rid of that shading, even if the IQ might leave something to be desired!

I'll try to get some night shots tonight with it as well, I'll check back in later

Actually, the fact that you can see the hood shows that it's working without cropping the resulting image.

I know some people who used to use them at 16mm for night time shots and for astro. It's certainly an option for those who might not have a fast wide lens.

Which means you can use that lens for 4K recording...

If there's a 1.7 crop you can use any lens that fits for 4k recording...

Yes, and 4K video using UWA crop lenses means there are really good options to offset that 1.7 crop.

Interesting.. I am out with my Samyang 8mm fisheye lens and the camera refuses to take the shot. I am wondering if its because its a all manual lens and the camera does no sense it since there is not electronics on the lens. I'm going to try my vintage lenses as well to see if the camera does not shoot either. Is there a setting for a bypass?

Go to custom settings and enable shooting without a lens.

I saw a youtube video claiming the 4k video of the EOS R is awful and is virtually indistinguishable from 1080p. Can anyone shoot some 4k footage and post a link? If true, that is really bad!

Some videos show it to be soft when compared with other brands, at least for vloging. I imagine lens choice will make a difference as well.

I just got mine today, and a 300mb card. I'm going to to test it this weekend.

I have also seen a video or two in which the 4K footage looked rather good. I am not interested in vlogging; I like wildlife and would mostly be using a macro lens, a 100-400 II, or an 800L. To me, a 1.8x crop isn't necessarily a bad thing (wildlife can be hard to approach, after all). I also have a 1D C and the 4K footage is sharp, but with no AF tracking.
