Canon RF 28-70mm 2.0 ... "Resists Vibration Shock"

Is anybody familiar with this? It shows up beneath the Amazon listing for this lens included with the EOS R. I heard that the lens did not have IS. But does this lens actually have a some kind of IS system that is always available with no switch?

It was shown beneath the ask a question box in graphics and info "From the Manufacturer"

If the lens can compensate for some shock or vibration, that may further explain its price.

Yeah good observation I just saw where it says "Vibration shock resistance helps maintain focus and settings even in turbulent situations." Sounds like some claim of image stabilization to me!

Just went back and looked at the RF 50mm 1.2 a few minutes ago, because it's also the other lens without an "IS" switch. Like the 28-70mm, its Amazon page also shows:

Not necessarily. It may just mean that the focus elements and ring, and the zoom ones too, don't shift with shock or vibration.

I don't have a dog in this hunt and also no connection to the Northrups. Here is a comparison video they just released.

For the EOS R, I think it's one of the least useful reviews he's done because what he said is basically old news on most every point.

Seeing it was about sports shooting, I would have enjoyed seeing the 7D mk ii compared to the EOS R, even though it's rather obvious what the two cameras are meant for. The 7D mk ii happened to be something I was looking at this week for a possible extra.

Northrup was also mentioning some other Nikon models, that maybe he should have included instead of the Sony A9 where is nowhere close in price.

Tony makes a case that it isn't for action shots. That's fine, it is still very capable for other things.

In my brief experience with the camera (~4 days) the AF point selection issues he’s discussed are real and go beyond sports shooting. It takes too long to get from one side to the other.

I loved his rant!

Here is the comment that I made in response to it:

Tony, in your "rant" that starts at 16:09, you are absolutely right with every single point you make. I agree with you 100% about all of it. And yes the word bokeh is pronounced "bow-kuh". And yes, Nikon is pronounced with the long i sound, not the short i sound. Those who say otherwise are the ones who are wrong.

.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

yeah I agree as well. It just shows he is just as fed up as everyone else with some hack who goes out and buys a fancy camera and all of a sudden he is a fricken pro and knows everything, Good for Tony

Kai also posted his review with a couple of rants as well. Or "grumbles" as he puts it.

I can't agree with his opinion of choosing AF points. I set mine up and it's no slower than my selecting points on my 5DIII. I would not hesitate to shoot sports for that reason. He didn't take the time to read the manual or learn the camera.

Use a smaller quadrant and try relative behavior. It's joystick quick that way. AF/1/Touch and drag settings. I was almost very disappointed. I was like "no, this can't be!".
