Heya,

Been a whlie, but the weather in Florida in the summer is just not fun outside. Today was the first day that didn't hit 100 F in a while. So later in the evening the girls wanted to start their fall photos without melting in the heat. There was a lot of tears and we didn't even finish all the planned stuff. The kids were hangry and their mothers were intolerant of the heat. But hey, we had fun a little... hah.

Setup:

Fuji X-T1 (mode AV, ISO 200 (base), -2/3rds EC to drop ambient a little)
Rokinon 50mm F1.2 @ F1.2
Hoya 3 stop ND (to help avoid shutter cap)
Flashpoint R2 Transceiver (TTL HSS, with +1 EC to compensate for strong back light fooling TTL)
Flashpoint R2 TTL Zoom LiON Speedlite (TTL HSS mode)
Cheetah Stand Boom + Fotodiox 28" BD (no sock)

And the girls of course.

I photographed a local oldies band yesterday, using Godox lighting and Atmosphere Aerosol and the client loved the results. They wanted to shoot in and around this barn, and the sides and rear were covered in thick brush, as well as the front having the opening, so our only choice was to have them facing the sun. "3, 2, 1 open your eyes" was the best we could do for the sun's glare, but by dialing the shot down to 1/160 sec., f/9 at ISO 400, I kept the sun from interfering and adding in an AD600 in 48" umbrella octabox, with dual AD200s in the rear for the fog and rim, I got the shot.

It contains mineral oils so take care with indoor use with strobes. The strobe cooling fan will draw it in and over time potentially gum up the electronics in the strobe.

Good point. I did have the strobes about 15' behind the subjects and the mist was sprayed less than 5' from their backs, so hopefully they didn't suck it in.

Senior shoot. Not in photo is the 48" umbrella octabox lighting him from camera right.

I had a great time today shooting photos for 20+ martial artists. The backgrounds will be cut out for use on promo posters, etc. so my job was to get upper body pics for the graphic designers.

The stuff: Profoto D2 strobe, Westcott 48" Octa, Avenger boom, C-Stand, sandbags, Canon 5D Mark IV, 70-200vII lens. Camera at ISO100, Shutter 200, Aperture 7.1 for almost everyone. (The tennis shoes under the C-stand was a last-minute thought to help protect the gym mats).

I actually liked building more drama with a smaller softbox but with so many people shuffling in I had to be more nimble to accommodate all sizes of people. I only had a couple minutes per person. All in all, it was fast-paced and good fun.

Here's the setup and a quick final (she still needs some PP on this one with the hot spot showing). I added a quick background onto my grey backdrop in post but again the final pics will be cut out of the background.

Serious post processing skills

Have marveled at the many beverage ads and shots posted that helped inspire this one:
30x40" softbox camera left and speedlite behind the bottle to provide some additional light to the contents.

Yes. I showed the initial work-up shots to my lab guys and it was unanimous for fake ones. The ones from our fridge were not very pretty even with the common filtration system in the water line.

Cool. That's alright—that's what the ad makers use.
