I set up a rudimentary home studio-gray walls, some seamless and a couple of speedlights with umbrellas in a corner of a spare room (kids moved out!). Trying to work out lighting and everything else. Usually I photograph nature and live music where I have less or no control of the lights. This is completely different.

I had my wife pose in a few outfits for some test photos. She's a performer so has some fun stage outfits. With mixed results as might be expected for a beginner in portraits.

This one wasn't too bad. Minimal retouching. I have a lot to learn, though. And then there is processing and color toning. Yikes. I used a gray card but when I corrected to the gray card the skin color didn't look right. Back to the drawing board.

And the secret to a laugh: Say this fast as you can out loud.

Two smart fellows They felt smart.
Three smart fellows They all felt smart."
