I say Groovy at least once a day.

Righteous! I say groovy daily as well. We're like twins!

Most in my neighborhood we’re referred to as local yokels or hayseeds. Probably still applicable today.ߤ

And I never stopped using "Dude" so I was amazed when it came back with Bill and Ted's excellent adventure, which seems to have given it a whole new life that continues to this day..

Jeff Bridges as The Dude. The Big Lebowski. They don't make enough of those movies.

What was "Bill and Ted's excellent adventure"?

A bit of a cult movie series about 2 teen loser guitarist wannabes that save the world. Keeanu Reeves was in it before he was a somebody.

Then there was Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey. They die and come back.

Now "sick" and "dope" are terms of approval. They've even crept into news headlines.

Oxford Dictionaries piece on meaning inversions:

The skateboarding reference is wicked fun.

  • The trick is dangerous but spectacular.
  • It could get you hospitalized.
  • Hospitals are for the sick.
  • That move is sick. (aka good)
  • My new board is sick.
  • This thread is sick vile! (Well, not yet but vile would be a good intensifier.)

:-)

Same here. An odd change of meaning, me thinks.

Good ones, dude!

Hoser/Hosehead - words from the fictional characters Bob and Doug McKenzie in the 1980s.

Gag me with a spoon! - Moon Zappa in the song Valley Girl.

Well, you brought back memories.

In the mid 70's (high school) -

A pretty girl was a 'fox'.
If she were dressed pretty, she was 'foxy'.
If she acted sexy, she was 'hot'.
And 'beaver' was what we boys hunted everywhere all the time, but
we could settle for petting 'puppies'.

A friend told me  -
A 'lid' was a sandwich bag with 3-4 fingers (laid flat) of pot and cost $10.
A 'joint' was a hand rolled marijuana cigarette. Cost $0.50 - 1.
A 'roach' was a short, almost finished 'joint'.
A 'roach clip' held the 'roach' preventing burned fingers.
'Ludes' and 'Mollies' were popular pills.
There's probably more, but for some reason, I can't remember all what he told me.

And LEOs were 'pigs'. Man, I haven't heard that one for a very long time.

It's my life and I'll get pissed if I want to.
