This past weekend, the Star of India took to the open sea off San Diego, CA for the first time in five years. Built in 1863, she is the world’s oldest active sailing ship. Amazing to think about this iron hulled, 212 foot ship sailing around the world 21 times with just a 28 man crew.

She was accompanied by the San Salvador, a replica of Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo’s ship that arrived at the port we now call San Diego on September 28, 1542. She was built in San Diego over a period of years by a large volunteer workforce.

Also alongside was the Californian, a replica of the 1847 Revenue Cutter C.W. Lawrence, which patrolled the coast of California enforcing federal law during the gold rush. She was built in San Diego in 1984 and in 2003, she was designated as the official tall ship of the State of California.

Awesome. Very nice array of photos.
Thanks for the commentary.

Very nice set. The images all look nice. It is a little odd to see a USA flag on a galleon as those vessels predate the USA by more than a few years.

This past weekend,...

I didn't want to 'Like' this post, but had no choice. Alas, there's no 'Love' selection available.
Beautiful. Thanks for sharing!
